Truck Drivers Could See Hazard Pay Under the Heroes Proposal

While many individuals have already received their stimulus checks from the government over these past few days, the Senate Democrats are planning to put forth a hazard payout for those who are on the front lines fighting against COVID-19. Earlier this month, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and other Democrats put in place the “Heroes Fund” for those who are working in essential services throughout the United States.

Thank the COVID Heros

Chuck Schumer tweeted, “A Heroes Fund for essential workers should be a part of the next phase of the Congressional response to coronavirus. No proposal will be complete without addressing the needs of our doctors, nurses, medical workers, truck drivers, grocers, transit workers, and more. Our Heroes.”

While kinks are still getting worked out, it is said that the ‘Heroes Fund’ could provide individuals who earn less than $200,000 a year to receive a payment of $25,000 and for those who make more than $200,000 a year to receive a payment of $5,000.

How will the Heroes Fund be Distributed?

This funding would be given straight to employers who are then responsible for paying workers and providing proof to the federal government that those payments were given to employees. We may hear more on the hazard pay later this month as Senators are pushing for this benefit to be added to the Coronavirus relief bill.

Here at Landstar, we want to thank our HEROS for going above and beyond to help provide to the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic.
