Landstar is a nationwide, non-forced dispatch trucking company. We
have 100% owner operators, no company Landstar drivers. Landstar is
the 3rd largest trucking company in the USA serving all the United States, as well as
Canada and Mexico. We have more freight than trucks! With Landstar, you pick your
loads. Go home when you want... Run the routes you want....
The Landstar trucking company is the largest owner-operator trucking company in the
nation. Our agency alone has over 200 domicile trucks and we are growing on a daily
basis. I am the manager of the recruiting department. I work for the
Jeff Secrest Agency in Canton, Ohio. I
love my job, my co-workers and my boss. Working for Landstar is very rewarding. We
are a multi-million dollar agency. We have twenty-three people working in the office
and our agency is open 7 days a week. We are above the Gulliver's Travel Plaza Truck
Stop at exit 101 on interstate 77. We have lots of major accounts and lots of freight
moving from the West Coast to the East Coast and from the North to South. Dollar
General, Best Buy, Payless Shoes, Sharp Electronics and Bed Bath and Beyond are just
a few of the customers that our agency hauls for.
As a recruiter and dispatcher,
building personal relationships with the drivers is also very rewarding. In this
trucking business, you make a lot friends. You also get regular drivers who become
your best friends. They rely on you for loads, and good paying ones. They will not
be late and they will do a great service and have no problem with making their daily
check calls into the system. I expect that of them just as they expect to get good
loads from me.
Landstar drivers can be picky about the loads they take. They can get
home as often as they wish to. Drivers can visit family and friends all over the
United States.
Landstar professional truck drivers are also always there for each other. They
will always help another Landstar driver when they have any kind of problems. A
couple of my very own personal experiences: are one time a driver needed
directions into a facility because there was a major accident along the route
that I had given him so another Landstar driver that had just delivered there
gave my driver a call and helped him get into the facility by another route, so
the driver could empty and not be late. Another incident was that a
driver had problems with her injectors and 3 other Landstar drivers stayed
around and helped her to get her truck back on the road before any of the
other drivers left. Then they all drove to the same location together to make
sure that she was ok. There are so many things like
that, that makes me very proud to say "I work at Landstar Trucking Company!"
Another name for a Landstar driver is a BCO, or Business Capacity Owner. Before
becoming a Landstar driver, a driver must first meet the minimum requirements.
You must be at least 23 years of age with a class A CDL with HAZMAT. You must
have one (1) year verifiable over-the-road driving experience in the last
three (3) years. No more than three (3) moving violations within the last three (3)
years with no more than one (1) excessive speeding.
Landstar drivers are very professional. They go through a lot to become a Landstar
driver. After you pass the
qualifications then you can fill out a 13 page application. Then the application
goes to a qualification center, where we pull the drivers DAC, MVR, and work
history going back 10 years. The next step is getting a 1 year physical, and
if we need any other follow up information we will contact you. After that, the
next step is to send you out for a drug test, and then you have to get your truck
inspected at a Landstar-certified facility. Finally, your application goes to
Corporate for the final review. After all of this then you can be proud to say
that you are part of a wonderful company.
Landstar Corporate has a lot of different departments that can help a driver
in different situations. For example: Maybe as little as getting fuel put onto
your COM data card. I also have a driver that has been hauling freight for me
for over a year and his truck broke down and he needed to get some repairs on
the truck and Landstar loaned this driver the money to get his truck fixed so
he could continue making money to take care of his family, I could go on and
on and on but that is another one of the qualities that makes me very proud to
say, "I work at Landstar Trucking Company!"
There are over 1,000 agencies of landstar in the United States. We are the
only trucking company that is 100% non-forced dispatch. Of course, the
driver can choose to haul for only one agency or many agencies, and that is
one of the freedoms of Landstar: Being an agency and drivers being able to
pick and choose what loads they want to haul. We are here for the drivers to
give the drivers of Landstar good information as to where they pick up and
where the driver delivers to and what type of product he is hauling. There
is a lot of different freight that our agency hauls. For example, we have
high risk freight which consists of electronics, such as computers, televisions,
VCRs, and corresponding equipment. But we also have auto parts, baby products
and home products. These loads all vary in weight from 10,000 pounds to 40,000
pounds. If a driver doesn't like to haul loads that are over 30,000 pounds,
then the driver still has a good choice of freight.
There are a lot of reasons that Landstar is a excellent trucking company to
work for and I am proud to say that I am a part of the Landstar family.
